Tool 11

1. What are your favorite tools you now have in your personal technology toolbox? Briefly describe a particular activity that you will plan for your students using at least one of these new tools.
Voki-I would like to use it as a presentation tool. Maybe for the notable people we read about in social studies and science
learninggamesforkids-as a station
Animoto-tas a culminating project after completing a unit

2. How have you transformed your thinking about the learning that will take place in your classroom? How has your vision for your classroom changed? Are you going to need to make any changes to your classroom to accommodate the 21st Century learner?
I will no longer look at technology as something else I have to do, but rather use it as a tool to enhance the learning that is taking place in my classroom. I will let down my walls and let the kids thirst for knowledge take them out into the "world".

3. Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?

I have done both of the previous blogs, and have really enjoyed all three. I learn something new every time.

Tool 10

Digital Citizenship: Safety to enable them to do great things online...not just protect them from the "bad" people out there.
I love the way the video put it that we want them to learn to form healthy relationshuips online.

From the 11 Tools Blog:
"Our job as educators is to help develop the skills necessary for our students to become successful citizens in the world. Today, this job includes helping student safely navigate an unfiltered digital world."

I couldn't agree more. I think it will begin with expectations and tons of modeling, but I know the kids will be up for the challenge.

I also think we need to get the parents involved so that the digital citizenship is an expectation no matter where the kids are accessing the internet.

Tool 9

Tutpup would work great for a math station. Kids could really learn their facts using the games on that website. I also think they would find it fun to compete with other kids around the world.
Also, learning  games for kids would work great for a literacy, math or social studies station. Kids could visit the netbooks when independent work is finished and explore other topics through this site.
As far as Apps for the i-pads, I downloaded the cursive app, third grade math app, solar system game, dragon dictation, and more. The kids love using the iPads. They are having fun and learning at the same time. I think it is important to tie it to the objectives, so that it enhances student learning. The technology serves as an additional resource for learning the information.

Tool 8

Things I learned about the devices in my classroom:
    touch pad with internet
    can download apps using itunes
a list of apps is provided online
ports for projector, microphone/headset port, multiple vents
kep vents free and clear of bojects so it does not overheat

How do you plan to manage the device(s) in your classroom? Do you have ideas/suggestions that others may find useful?
I plan to put them in stations or use them for research with groups.

Tool 7

I love the idea of connecting with classrooms around the world and "flattening our walls". We have already used someof these tools this year, such as sharing in Google docs, and Edmodo for our cadres. If I were to start doing something like this, I would like to start small, and once comfortable, eventually branch out. An example project could be:
  1. Content objective: LA: reading comprehension/book recommendations
  2. When you plan to implement: Spring semester
  3. What tool(s) you plan to use: Skype or Edmodo
  4. A brief description of the project : Get with another 3rd grade class in the district. Have a forum to discuss our read aloud or independent reaading books and recommend books back and forth.

Tool 6

I think is great. I created a board for compliments and sent it out to other teachers in the school. Our class is really focusing on behavior, so I think this will be a great way to encourage them! Here is my wall:

I also like I am going to start my blog with a discussion about our read aloud. Students, either on the netbooks or in lab, can comment and or question the story. I think this will be a great way for everyone to be heard.

Tool 5

So I made a video using Stupeflix video, and I am unable to get it on my page. I am able to provide a link, though.

I thought it was fairly simple, and a great tool to use for introducing units. Very similar to Animoto. I think I will be using this quite a bit to intro new concepts. I think quick videos catch kids' attention and get them interested.

Tool 4

I have used Google docs before, so I am somewhat familliar with it. At the begining of this school year, we created our schedule in Google docs and shared it with the team. I am so impressed with the forms! I will surely be using that this year! I never knew about Google forms until now. I will be using Google Docs to send things to my team and special ed teachers, and forms to create quizzes!

Tool 3

Wow! I spent a lot of time on! I found a bunch of short clips that I can put into flipcharts. I love that they can be chopped and put on a white background! There are so many things that people do online, and I never understood how to do it. Now I see! I also love that the websites for chopping video and downloading video are so user friendly. I put a place value song video into a place value flipchart. I'm having a lot of fun with this, but I am also taking up my whole day!

Since I have done all the web 2.0 blogs, the copyright and fair use were not new to me.

It would not allow me to open Picasa web albums.

Tool 2

In establishing my PLN, I reviewed many of the websites recommended on the blog. Some I liked a lot better than others. One in particular, I joined and really like. I do think it is important to communicate with others and learn from each other. The internet opens you up to the whole world, and establishing a PLN is important in this big internet world!

Really enjoyed visiting other blogs, to see how others have been using these tools! I have so many new ideas! And they come at the perfect time, since I just received my netbooks and iPads!

Tool 1

Created my blog. Quick and painless. About to creat my Voki. This should be fun!

It was...until I tried to get my voki on my page. It took a while to figure that one out!

I think kids could use a voki to explain any previously learned material. It could be a fun way to have kids teach each other or present material.
